TEGUISE MARKET
CONSERVATION PROJECT

VISITOR Information

The Teguise market every Sunday is a must for visiting tourists and also for the residents to pass the time and soak in the festive atmosphere. For us it is a fantastic opportunity to talk to people. We speak to many visitors who are interested in all aspects of nature and the work of the conservation project.

We keep a rigorous register of all people who pass the stall, recording demographic statistics and also topics discussed. This helps us to know what works in our efforts to spread awareness of Lanzarote’s unique wildlife.

Besides some free material such as leaflets, bird guides, etc. we also sell nature books in different languages, maps, T-shirts and reusable bags. To be consistent with our commitment to ecology, the shirts and bags are made of organic cotton and natural colours. The designs are made exclusively for Desert Watch by different artists.

Sales of the merchandise help us raise money for our conservation projects but the real goal of the market is the spreading of awareness. Many people who stop at the stall on a Sunday become volunteers later on, residents and tourists alike.
